While agreeably a bit of a cliché, the phrase “this is us” kept going through my head over the past few weeks, while we were putting the final touches and html code on the Parker Avery team page updates. During this exercise—which started early this year with the objective of showcasing the deep experience, talent, and broad expertise of our team, as well as a bit of our collective and individual personalities—I learned some surprising things about my colleagues.
Despite being so geographically diverse—our team spans the United States from the east coast of New England and southern states (including islands.), through the mid-west, and over to the Golden State of California—we preserve the unique and intimate charisma and comradery of a boutique consulting firm.
Even though I’ve been part of The Parker Avery Group for over 5 years, I continue to be impressed by the caliber of people with whom I work. One of the things that sets us apart from other consulting firms is that all levels in the firm roll up their sleeves during client projects and add meaningful value. The collective candor and overall demeanor of our team is refreshing and admirable—and I believe that resonates with our clients.
Our own CEO, Robert Kaufman, is a fantastic example: after waking up around 4am (and that’s considered late for him.) every morning and logging 6-7 miles running, this man gets down to work and doesn’t quit until late in the day. He also somehow manages to respond to every email—even if it’s a simple “thank you” acknowledging a task completed or an FYI—all while managing often-hectic client schedules, travel delays, project issues, and of course leading the firm. And in his precious spare time, he enjoys tracking hurricanes—go figure.
During this deep dive into our firm’s collective background, I found out that quite a few of my colleagues live on or near the water and enjoy boating—in fact, I learned that another Parker Avery associate and I own the same make and size sailboat (Catalina 27’). I also discovered that our President & Managing Partner, Clay Parnell, is a serious aficionado of vinyl records and another colleague ambitiously tackled the 8,000-piece Millennium Falcon Lego set with his 3 young kids (we haven’t discussed the aftermath). We have a flamenco expert who has danced in Spain, a former actor, a few avid skiers/snowboarders, a scratch golfer, a 3-time letterman in college football, and even someone who owns satellite-visible yard art.
These are only some of the surprising artifacts about our team. And while we are indeed diverse, we hold a shared perspective on the work we do for our clients: always bring your absolute best. I invite you to take a look at our new team page and the individual pages (just click on the headshots) and discover what sets The Parker Avery Group apart.
